Our Methodology
Pick10Wise is a product research portal, and every recommendation published here goes through a fixed editorial process. This page describes that method in full — including the commercial practices we refuse to adopt, even when it means leaving revenue on the table.
We believe reader trust is built on total transparency. That's why this policy is a public, versioned document: when the methodology changes, the version number changes, and you know exactly what to expect from our rankings.
Every recommendation follows the same fixed editorial flow, with independent checkpoints. If a step can't be completed properly, the product simply doesn't make the list.
Before any research begins, we define the use profile the guide serves (family, professional, budget-conscious, etc.) and the non-negotiable minimum requirements for the category.
We compile the models currently available to U.S. buyers on Amazon and through official manufacturer channels. Products with fewer than 50 verified reviews, or that are discontinued, are excluded from the start.
Raw star ratings say little on their own. We apply weights: a verified purchase with a substantive written review counts for more than an isolated star rating. Review patterns that suggest manipulation are discarded entirely.
Each category has a public weight matrix (shown below). Value for money, durability, and perceived quality receive fixed percentages before the analysis starts — never adjusted afterward.
Before finalizing, we cross-reference multiple public sources to validate how the product performs in practice: specialist video reviews on YouTube, technical assessments from reference publications, and — above all — dozens to hundreds of real owner comments across marketplaces. This cross-check reveals recurring defects, usage patterns, and strengths that no manufacturer spec sheet will show you.
The final score is the output of the category formula — not the writer's personal preference. Ties are broken by the lower average street price over the previous 30 days.
Before going live, every guide is reviewed by an editor who did not take part in the research. Once published, it enters the maintenance cycle, with a public changelog at the bottom of the article.
To make it concrete, here is the actual scoring sheet applied to a fictional product in the Air Fryer category. This is exactly how we evaluate: public weights, math in the open, no black box.
| Criterion | Weight | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Usable capacity | 25% | 8.5 |
| Power and cooking evenness | 20% | 9.0 |
| Ease of cleaning | 15% | 7.0 |
| Reported durability | 20% | 8.0 |
| Value for money | 20% | 9.5 |
| Final weighted score | 8.5 / 10 |
Illustrative example. Each category has its own weights, defined before the research begins.
The weights below are locked before a guide's research starts and reviewed quarterly. Changes appear in the methodology changelog — no fine print.
Air fryers, multi-cookers, food processors, blenders
Laptops, tablets, smartphones, external drives, power banks
Supplements, equipment, monitors, blood pressure devices
Desks, sofas, decor, office chairs
Drills, drivers, grinders, laminators
Car seats, high chairs, cribs, toys
One policy, valid for everyone on the Pick10Wise editorial team — from intern to founder. Anyone who breaks it is out. This is the declaration every team member signs when joining:
"I do not accept money, gifts, trips, or favors from brands in exchange for editorial coverage, and I base my analyses exclusively on verifiable public sources. Ranking positions are determined by the category's public formula — never by personal preference or any commercial relationship with manufacturers."— Pledge signed by the entire Pick10Wise team
Plenty of "review" sites operate in exactly the opposite way. The table below shows the difference, no sugarcoating:
| Topic | Pick10Wise | Pay-to-play sites |
|---|---|---|
| Paying for a ranking position | Refused. Order is set by the category formula. | Accepted. Their "#1" can be a disguised media auction. |
| Manufacturer copy as "analysis" | Marketing descriptions are treated with critical distance. | Press releases are pasted in and presented as reviews. |
| Recommending without data | Product is excluded, or the data gap is flagged publicly. | Any model gets slotted in just to complete the list. |
| Evaluation criteria | Public weights, locked in advance, reviewed quarterly. | Opaque criteria, adjusted afterward to favor products. |
| Keeping guides current | Fixed review cycle per category, with a public changelog. | Post and abandon — a 2021 guide still labeled "current." |
| Errors reported by readers | Corrected within 72 hours, with an explanatory note. | Silently edited — or simply ignored. |
The category's volatility sets the frequency. Smartphones change faster than cookware sets, and our cycle respects that. In every case, no guide goes more than 30 days without review:
7 days
Smartphones, fast-moving laptops, peripherals, electronics in seasonal promotion.
15 days
Wireless audio, smartwatches, monitors, tablets, TVs, popular personal care.
30 days
Appliances, tools, furniture, baby products. Categories that move more slowly.
72h
Manufacturer recall, discovered fraud, safety failure, or factual error reported by a reader.
Transparency only means something when the reader can act on it. These are your rights as a Pick10Wise reader — and our response commitments:
Running a quality research portal costs money: editorial salaries, research tools, hosting, data analysis technology, and each writer's time. Here is exactly how Pick10Wise sustains itself — and why it doesn't compromise what you read.
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through them, the retailer pays us a small commission — with no increase whatsoever in the price you pay. It's exactly the same price as if you'd arrived from Google.
The critical distinction in our model: the commission comes from the retailer (Amazon), not the manufacturer. That means we earn essentially the same percentage regardless of which brand you choose — we have zero financial incentive to recommend one brand over another.
Individual brands never pay to have their products listed, moved up, or kept in a guide. If that ever changes, this paragraph will be struck through and the change recorded in the public changelog.

Our methodology is built on advanced qualitative research, cross-referencing multiple public sources to reach a reliable assessment. For every product analyzed, we consult the manufacturer's official spec sheet, video reviews from specialist channels, assessments published by technical reference outlets, and — above all — dozens to hundreds of real comments from consumers who actually bought the product.
This cross-referencing reveals with precision what works in practice, which defects recur, and which use profile each product serves best — often with more clarity than a single hands-on test could offer, because it aggregates the accumulated experience of thousands of real users over time.
Possible reasons: (a) it has fewer than 50 verified reviews; (b) it's discontinued or about to be; (c) it doesn't meet the category's minimum requirements; (d) it simply hasn't been evaluated yet and will enter the next review cycle. If you think it's an oversight, send us a message with the link and your reasoning — we look at every case.
We use AI for auxiliary tasks: summarizing large volumes of reviews, detecting suspicious manipulation patterns, formatting data. Every published analysis is written, reviewed, and signed by a person on our team, who is editorially accountable for the content. We do not publish AI-generated text without substantial human review.
That's precisely what the review cycle is for. When market feedback starts to shift — ratings dropping, recurring complaints, reported failures — the product is re-evaluated and can lose its position or be removed from the guide. If it's serious (like a safety recall), we open an emergency correction within 72 hours.
Send your suggestion through our contact page with the category you'd like covered and, if possible, three or four models you'd want compared. We assess viability (search demand, number of models, editorial capacity) and open new categories quarterly.
You can write to us through the site's contact channels. We don't accept product samples and we don't do coverage on demand — our methodology is grounded exclusively in verifiable public sources and market data, with no direct commercial relationship with manufacturers.
You can, however, flag relevant launches from your brand, point out technical information you believe is inaccurate in a published guide, or alert us to recalls and important product updates. We evaluate each request within our quarterly editorial cycle.
Now you know our method. If you spot an error or want to suggest an improvement, write to us: Contact.pick10wise@gmail.com.
